Vol. 216 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers' Cottages.

53.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will arrange that the Land Commission will cooperate with local authorities in providing sites for houses under the Labourers Acts.

The acquisition powers of the Land Commission are governed by the Land Acts and their primary purpose is the provision of land for the relief of congestion. It would be quite impracticable for the Land Commission to acquire lands generally for all local authority housing requirements but, wherever practicable, the Land Commission do, in fact, cooperate with local authorities in relation to the provision of sites. If the Deputy has any particular case in mind and furnishes particulars, I shall have inquiries made.
