Vol. 216 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Allowances.

27.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will introduce legislation with a view to providing that the children's allowance should continue to be paid in respect of children of insured workers who are in full-time education up to the age of 18 years.

I have had under consideration for some time the question of continuing the payment of children's allowances beyond the age of 16 in certain circumstances.

I would point out to the Deputy, however, that children's allowances are payable in respect of all children under 16 resident in the State and there are no insurance conditions to be satisfied for their receipt. Accordingly. I could not consider limiting to the children of insured workers any concessions which may be made in this respect.

The Deputy mentioned 18 years.

I know that. I said "beyond the age".
