Vol. 216 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Imported Tomatoes.

41.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the import restrictions, which he has imposed for the purpose of appropriately safeguarding the interest of Irish tomato growers, have been used by foreign suppliers of foreign tomatoes in such a monopolistic way as to force Irish consumers to pay an inflated price for foreign tomatoes; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I am not aware that import restrictions have been used as indicated. The comparatively high prices last week resulted from a temporary shortage. Prices are now lower as a result of increased supplies.
