Vol. 216 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Sligo-Roscommon Lands.

34.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the fact that Germans are buying land on the Sligo-Roscommon border, which is badly needed for relief of congestion; and if he will take appropriate steps to prevent the sanction of such sales as the number of applicants for migration from Sligo far exceeds the number of holdings that can be made available.

Following the enactment of the Land Act, 1965, the statutory position is that a person who is not a qualified person within the meaning of section 45 of that Act must obtain the consent of the Land Commission to the vesting of any interest in land exceeding five acres. No relevant application has been received by the Land Commission to date in respect of the district mentioned.

If the Deputy has a particular case in mind, perhaps he would communicate the relevant particulars to the Land Commission.
