asked the Taoiseach the number of industrial disputes involving stoppages of work in the four years 1961 to 1964 in State-sponsored concerns, classifying the causes of such disputes in the form of table 2 of the Statistical Survey for the four years 1961-64 published in the Irish Statistical Bulletin; and what percentage of total man-days is represented by man-days lost by such stoppages.

The term "State-sponsored concern" is not well defined and there may be some doubt as to whether or not certain bodies should be so classified. The definition has been taken as including autonomous corporations and companies, etc., with their wholly-owned subsidiaries to which the Government or Ministers appoint directors, etc., and whose staff are not civil servants. With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the required information for these bodies.
