Vol. 216 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the position regarding Bandon regional water supply scheme; and when work will commence.

Contract documents for this scheme which were received in my Department on 10th May, 1965, are being examined. I hope to convey a decision thereon to Cork County Council shortly.

I am not in a position to say when work will commence on this scheme.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give full details of the present position regarding the proposed Ardfinnan regional water supply scheme, County Tipperary; when it is expected that this scheme will come into operation; and what are the reasons for the delay in implementing it.

I understand that the latest date for receipt of tenders for Stage I of this scheme is 18th June. I do not know when the scheme will come into operation nor am I aware what stage of the scheme's preparation is suggested to have been delayed.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed Clonmel, County Tipperary rural piped water supply scheme; and when he expects it to come into operation.

Contract documents for the scheme have already been approved and I understand that Tipperary (SR) County Council hope to advertise for tender shortly.

I am not in a position to say when the scheme will come into operation.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position regarding the Dundrum rural water supply scheme, County Tipperary; and when he expects it to come into operation.

I understand that tenders for Stage I of this scheme have been invited and that the latest date for their receipt by Tipperary (SR) County Council is 24th June. I am not in a position to say when this scheme will come into operation.

Is the Minister aware that the cause of considerable delay in the provision of water supplies in many areas is the fact that only one firm is on the Combined Purchasing List for the supply of polythene piping and is unable to supply for three or four months on some occasions?

That is news to me because I do know that there are three or four firms chasing contractors around the country, offering all sorts of piping at similar quotations.

But there is only one on the list.

We can have it amended, if necessary.
