Vol. 216 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of County Roscommon Estate.

64.

asked the Minister for Lands when a start will be made on the development of a public park at Rockingham Estate, Boyle, County Roscommon.

The Forestry Division of my Department, in consultation with Bord Fáilte Éireann, are planning the development of part of the lands comprised in the former Rockingham Estate near Boyle, County Roscommon as a forest park. Development plans have not been completed but much necessary preliminary clearance and restoration has already been undertaken. In the meantime public enjoyment of the area is not being restricted.

65.

asked the Minister for Lands when the roads on Rockingham Estate, Boyle, County Roscommon, will be put into a proper state of repair, in view of their importance as tourist roads.

There are no public roads traversing the former Rockingham estate near Boyle, County Roscommon though public access is permitted to the area being developed as a forest park. As much of the necessary clearance of storm damaged timber must be made over the forest road network a high standard of road finish cannot at this stage be maintained. Arrangements have, however, been made to keep the surface of roads used by the public in reasonable repair.

66.

asked the Minister for Lands when a piped water supply will be laid on to the pier or some convenient point at Rockingham, County Roscommon to facilitate tourists and the general public.

The provision of fresh water supplies at the former Rockingham estate near Boyle, County Roscommon is one of the many aspects of the development of a forest park there being considered by my Department in consultation with Bord Fáilte Éireann. Pending final decisions on certain aspects of the development it is not proposed to carry in piped water supplies.
