asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the local authorities that operate sick pay schemes for servants and details of the scheme in each case.

The information requested is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Details of Sick Pay Scheme

County Councils:

The Schemes are similar for most Counties and generally apply to pensionable servants. Sick pay is allowed for a period up to four weeks in a period of 12 months. Sick pay is not allowed for the first three days of any period of illness. The rate of benefit allowed is:

Dublin

(a) for the first two weeks, the servant's weekly rate of wages less appropriate Social Welfare benefit,

Kildare

(b) for the second two weeks, 25% of the first two weeks sick pay.

In County Galway and Mayo full pay may be allowed for up to 8 weeks illness.

NOTE: It is understood that Roscommon County Council are about to introduce a scheme on the above lines. Offaly County Council are considering the introduction of a scheme as from 1st April, 1966.

13 weeks at half pay in any period of 12 months.

Dublin

4 weeks at full pay; 26 weeks at half pay; 22 weeks at quarter pay.

Limerick

91 days at full pay; 92 days at half pay, in any year.

Waterford

Sick pay may be allowed for a period up to 16 weeks the rate approximating to the difference between wages and entitlement under SW Acts and Employees Contributory Sick Pay Fund.

Urban District Councils and Others:

Athlone

48 days full pay; 156 days at half pay in any two local financial years.

Athy

Scheme is same as that described for county councils.

Ballina

Up to 4 weeks full pay and 2 weeks at half pay.

Ballinasloe

Normal rate of pay to a maximum of 8 weeks in a year.

Bray

2 months at full pay and half pay for further six months.

Carlow

Scheme is same as that described for county councils.

Carrick-on-Suir

Clonmel Corporation

Full pay for 6 days illness.

Drogheda Corporation

Up to 8 weeks sick leave at half pay allowed.

Ennis

8 weeks at half pay.

Enniscorthy

Scheme is same as that described for county councils.

Galway Corporation

4 days illness—one half of a week's pay; 5 days illness— two thirds of a week's pay; six days—full pay. The maximum sick pay in a year is limited to 8 weeks' wages.

Killarney

Three weeks on full pay in any year; any period over this on the merits of the case.

Kinsale

Scheme is same as that described for county councils.

Macroom

Each case is considered on its merits. Limit in any year is 13 weeks paid leave.
