asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Government agree with the recommendation of the Interdepartmental Committee on administrative arrangements for implementing manpower policy that a Department of Labour be not set up to deal with manpower policy.

72.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Government agree with the proposal contained in the Report of the Interdepartmental Committee on administrative arrangements for implementing manpower policy that for meeting the costs of retaining redundant workers insurance stamp contributions of workers should be raised, and a levy placed on all firms in every particular industrial sector.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 71 and 72 together.

The Government Departments concerned are at present examining the report of the interdepartmental committee referred to by the Deputy and the National Industrial Economic Council is also being consulted. When examination of the report has been completed, the Government's decisions on the recommendations in the report will be announced.
