Vol. 217 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Traffic Wardens for Galway Schools.

29.

asked the Minister for Justice if there are any plans before his Department to provide traffic wardens outside the national schools in Galway City; and, if not, if he will ensure that they are provided as soon as possible.

The Road Traffic Act, 1961, makes provision for the making of arrangements by local authorities, with the consent of the Commissioner, Garda Síochána, for patrolling by traffic wardens at places where school children cross public roads.

I understand that Galway Borough Corporation are considering appointing traffic wardens for duty at crossings near schools in the city and the question of the consent of the Commissioner will be sympathetically and expeditiously considered when the corporation submit their scheme.
