Vol. 217 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Milk Powder Plant.

25.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if a site for a milk powder plant at Durrow, County Laois was submitted to him with others for selection; and, if so, for what reason he turned down the site at Durrow in view of the fact that it was suitable as regards water supply and satisfactory sewage disposal and in every other respect, as local farmers were willing to cooperate and as the setting up of this plant would give employment in the district.

The selection of the particular locations for milk processing factories is a matter for the promoters in the first instance but is subject to my approval.

In March last I agreed to the establishment of a milk processing factory in County Kilkenny. The promoters considered the suitability of a number of sites, including that at Durrow, and finally asked me to approve of a site at Ballyragget. I have given my approval for the erection of the factory at that site, subject to the usual conditions.
