77.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will list the bodies in the State under the aegis of his Department which are entitled to issue grants direct, stating the type of grant in each case.

The bodies in the State under the aegis of my Department, which are entitled to issue grants direct and the purpose for which these are given are as follows:—

An Foras Tionscal

For the establishment or development of industries.

Córas Tráchtála

To promote and develop exports and to promote improvement in design standards.

Institute for Industrial Research and Standards.

(a) For the training of persons in industrial research; and

(b) to assist in the development and exploitation of inventions.

An Cheard-Chomhairle

(a) Towards the cost of accommodation and travel of apprentices attending certain courses in technical schools and

(b) to defray administrative expenses of members of local Advisory Apprenticeship Committees.

Irish National Productivity Committee.

(a) To assist bodies engaged in industrial education and training and

(b) to help defray the cost of study visits designed to improve efficiency.

My Department of course also makes grants direct for (a) the promotion of efficiency in industry and in distribution (Technical Assistance Grants) (b) to assist producers affected by the imposition of the Special Charge on goods imported into the United Kingdom; and (c) towards the cost of the administration of Adaptation Councils.
