Vol. 219 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Movement of Capital.

11.

(South Tipperary) asked the Taoiseach if he will list (a) public issues and (b) private issues to which credit capital movements of £5,256,000 and £2,268,000 are respectively attributed for the year 1964.

The information in regard to capital inflows in respect of public issues is obtained by the Central Statistics Office on a confidential basis from the companies concerned and it is not, therefore, possible to disclose the data relating to individual concerns. While the information in respect of private issues is complied from the records of the Companies Registration Office it is not considered that it would be appropriate publicly to list the individual particulars.

12.

(South Tipperary) asked the Taoiseach if he can give a breakdown of the figures £39,510,000 credit inflow and £7,130,000 debit outflow mentioned under the heading other capital transactions in a reply of 9th November, 1965.

Many of the items included under the heading "Other Capital Transactions" in the Balance of International Payments statement are obtained on condition that they will individually be treated as confidential. While certain other items in this heading are not in this category, it is extremely difficult to subdivide the total so as to avoid in individual years the disclosure of the confidential data. Sub-classifications by which these difficulties may be overcome are being examined but it is not considered feasible to give any further breakdown at present.
