Vol. 219 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Activities of Firm.

5.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if the activities of a firm (name supplied) with a Dublin address and operating in Africa, has been brought to his notice; and, if so, if he is satisfied that the business is bona fide or is doing injury to the name of Ireland abroad.

The activities of Industrial Products Ltd., 1 St. Joseph's Avenue, Drumcondra, have been brought unfavourably to my notice as have those of Leprechaun Food Products Ltd., also known as L.F.P. Ltd., which uses the same address. The Government have taken steps, where feasible, to counteract the undesirable activities of the companies and have had the nature and extent of their activities brought to the notice of the authorities of a number of African countries. Further action is under consideration.

The Taoiseach will assure the House with regard to the activities of this gentleman, who is apparently running three or four very unsavoury firms in this city, trying to make money very quickly in Africa, and his doing so is seriously injuring the good name of this country, that every effort will be made as quickly as possible to stop him because he has been at it now since 1952.

The man's name is Mr. Rex Glenny. I do not mind mentioning it. He is the principal shareholder of these companies.
