Vol. 219 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Telephone Applications.

64.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants in County Mayo awaiting telephone service; how long they have been waiting for service; and when it is likely to be provided.

The number is 265. Of these, 2 applied in 1960, 9 in 1961, 16 in 1962, 38 in 1963, 60 in 1964 and 140 in 1965. Arrangements are in hands to provide service to 105 of these applicants, including 40 of those on the waiting list since before 1964. It is planned to offer service during this financial year to all the other pre-1964 applicants and to as many as possible of the later applicants. The remaining cases will have attention when the long standing applications have been cleared.
