Vol. 219 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Investigation of Solicitors' Accounts.

119.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to statements in the national press and on Telefís Éireann indicating that the Gardaí are probing the accounts of a number of solicitors, most of them with Dublin practices; and if he will make a statement on this important matter of public concern.

As the Deputy may have observed, a statement was published by the Incorporated Law Society on Monday last which said that they had asked the Garda to investigate two cases in which solicitors had defaulted.

There is no cause for public concern in this connection: the public interest is safeguarded by the existence of a compensation fund set up under the Solicitors Act and administered by the Incorporated Law Society.
