I propose, with your permission, Sir, to take Questions Nos. 2 and 3 together and to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the amount of advances on mortgages and the number of mortgages in each year 1958 to 1964. The 1964 figures are provisional.
Advances by building societies are made upon security of freehold or leasehold estate by way of mortgage and, therefore, the advances are not necessarily all in respect of residential property. Separate data for the amount of money advanced on house mortgages and the number of houses in respect of which such mortgages were made are not available.
