asked the Taoiseach the total value of (a) exports to Great Britain and (b) imports from Great Britain during 1965.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade with Great Britain.
2.
In the period January-October, 1965, the latest for which such data are at present available, total exports to Great Britain were valued at £106,528,400. Imports from Great Britain in the same period were valued at £144,005,302.
In view of the fact that we have an adverse trade balance of roughly £38 million, would it not have been better, and more favourable to the Irish people, if the Taoiseach had tried to negotiate a barter agreement with the British Government recently rather than a Free Trade Agreement?
That does not arise out of the question.
The answer is no.
