Vol. 220 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballintogher (Sligo) School.

73.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the rat infested condition and deplorable state of disrepair of Ballintogher national school, County Sligo; and what proposals, if any, there are to remedy the matter.

I am aware that the national school building at Ballintogher is in an unsatisfactory state of repair.

In accordance with the announced policy of providing for the primary education of children in larger school units, where feasible, my Department is investigating the question of how the children of Ballintogher and contiguous areas can best be served in the matter of primary school facilities. Every effort will be made to have this matter brought to early decision, and if the decision involves the replacement of the Ballintogher school by a new building the necessary arrangements will be proceeded with.

In the meantime, the Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to arrange to have carried out such works as would render the existing building serviceable for some time longer.
