Vol. 220 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potez Dublin Company.

17.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the employment at Potez and associated companies at Naas Road, Dublin has improved since a previous question on the matter; and if further funds by way of grant or loan have been afforded from any Government source.

I understand that employment in Potez Aerospace Ltd., Baldonnel, has increased slightly since the Deputy inquired last October.

I also understand that some payments which fell due under the arrangements with the company for the establishment of the project have been made to them since last October.

Could the Minister say what "slightly" means—what number of people?

It is not usual to give the amount. It is in the region of about 20 extra, I think.

Could the Minister state what was the amount of the grant paid?

I think I gave it to the House before.

The way the Minister has just mentioned?

I would not have the recent amount. It is not the practice to give out the amounts.

£420,000 was the last figure we got.

Was the Deputy asking what was the amount of the last payment?

Does the Minister see any firm prospect of this industry proceeding, from his present knowledge of the situation?

The promoters are still acting on the basis of going into full production of aeroplanes. I expect to have further information from them in the near future.
