Vol. 220 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tullamore County Home.

25.

asked the Minister for Health if he will indicate his reasons for refusing to receive a deputation from the Offaly County Council in connection with the reconstruction and improvement of the County Home at Tullamore, in view of the great urgency associated with the carrying out of the work; and why on other occasions he has received deputations from other councils with similar requests.

Mr. O'Malley

I did not refuse to receive a deputation from Offaly County Council, but on 17th ultimo I informed the council that no useful purpose would be served in receiving a deputation at that stage because certain aspects of the general policy in regard to the future institutional care of the chronic sick and the aged were being re-examined in my Department. I fully appreciate the urgency of the matter and there will be no undue delay in dealing with it.

I have not received deputations from other county councils to discuss county home reconstruction schemes with them.
