Vol. 220 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vacant Housing Accommodation.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that much annoyance is caused to persons on the Dublin Corporation housing waiting lists by the large number of vacant flats and houses, particularly in Mountpleasant and Hollyfield Buildings, Rathmines; if he will ensure that steps are taken to expedite the reletting of vacant accommodation; and why there are so many vacant flats at Mountpleasant and Hollyfield.

I am not so aware. I am informed by the corporation that all possible steps are taken by them to expedite the letting of vacant accommodation. Six flats at Mountpleasant and Hollyfield Buildings are available for reletting at present. Two of them have been offered to prospective tenants. Three of the remainder are one-roomed dwellings. It is necessary for the corporation to keep a small number of vacant dwellings, particularly one-roomed dwellings, in reserve for persons displaced at short notice from dangerous buildings.
