asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state with reference to a reply of 15th December last what improvements in employment exchanges are at present (a) at the drawing stage or (b) under construction; and the location and cost of them.

Plans for the erection of a new employment exchange in Clifden, County Galway at an estimated cost of £14,000 are at the drawing stage. New buildings are under construction at Longford and Carlow which will house the employment exchanges and offices of other Government Departments. The estimated cost of the portions of the buildings to be used as employment exchanges is £13,000 in Longford and £17,500 in Carlow.

Structural improvements and redecoration are being carried out in the employment exchanges in Drogheda, Manorhamilton and in the Dublin exchanges in Gardiner Street, Werburgh Street and Northumberland House at an estimated cost of approximately £8,500.
