Vol. 220 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Council Houses.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay in the erection of county council houses at Castletownroche, Watergrasshill, Banteer and Rathcoole, County Cork.

A composite loan was applied for by the council last July to cover ten different groups of cottages, including those mentioned by the Deputy. This application was the subject of correspondence with the council, and has been under consideration in conjunction with similar proposals before my Department. I hope to be in a position shortly to give a decision on the council's application.

Is the Minister aware that Cork County Council have asked the Minister several times to receive a deputation to discuss the whole problem? Is he further aware that people in Watergrasshill and Banteer are living in bad houses and that nothing has been done for them since 1954? I ask the Minister to expedite this matter.

I have already said that I will do that.
