Duties performed by Gardaí in connection with elections and activities related thereto are in many cases carried out on a part-time basis and are combined in varying degree with other police duties. It would accordingly not be possible to give an estimate of the total number of Gardaí required for election work or the cost of salaries or incidental expenses. The performance of election work by Gardaí does not result in any increase in expenditure on Garda remuneration.
