asked the Taoiseach if he will now give the figures for each of the years 1938 to 1965 inclusive, taking 1938 as base equalling one hundred, corresponding to those given in table 18 of the NIEC Report on the Economic Situation, 1965 and those already quoted in a reply of 15th December last.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Real Income Statistics.
I propose, with your permission Sir, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the information requested by the Deputy, in so far as it is available for the years 1947 to 1964 inclusive. In view of the lack of detailed data for 1938, it has been necessary to combine the groups "Industry" and "Other services" which were shown separately in the reply of 15th December last. Comparable figures for the years 1939 to 1946 inclusive, are not available, nor is it possible at this stage to give corresponding data for the year 1965. As has been noted in the previous reply, the Central Statistics Office does not endorse the basic method of computation used.
Following is the statement:—

NOTES (1) The data on real income are derived from the net product at current factor cost attributable to each sector in the national accounts, deflated in each case by the consumer price index.
(2) The data on sectoral real income per person are derived from sectoral real income as defined in (1), divided by the estimated number of occupied persons in the sector.
