Vol. 220 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Cottages.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what plans exist concerning the county council cottages at Collinstown Lane, County Dublin; and whether he is aware that planes now taxi to the end of cottage gardens there.

A recent extension of a runway at Dublin Airport in the vicinity of county council cottages at Collinstown Lane is now in service and plans for the acquisition of the cottages affected and for the rehousing of the occupants are in course of preparation in conjunction with Dublin County Council.

Is the Minister aware that recent inquiries directed to the county council by some of these tenants elicited a reply to the effect that the council was in no position to give any information and that the initiative lay with the Department of Transport and Power? There has been very long delay in this matter. The Minister must appreciate the discomfort of living next door to a jet that is tuning up every couple of hours outside one's back window. Will he also take into account, in addition to the urgent need for rehousing these people, the need for payment of compensation for disturbance when that does occur?

All these matters are being taken into consideration and negotiations have been taking place since May, 1963.

It is far too long.

Questions Nos. 4 and 5 postponed.
