Vol. 220 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Houses and Flats.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government the average deposit and total cost of a five-room SDA house built by private builders in the Dublin area.

I understand that the average gross price of new houses in the Dublin area which are the subject of current loan applications is in the region of £3,400 and that deposits range generally between £400 and £600, depending on the circumstances of the individual cases.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government the price charged to Dublin Corporation by private builders for a five-room house, a four-room house, a five-room flat, a four-room flat and a three-room flat.

On the basis of a crosssection of tenders approved in the past eighteen months the average building costs for five-roomed and four-roomed houses and five-roomed, four-roomed and three-roomed flats were £2,245; £2,162; £4,514; £3,598 and £2,778 respectively. Building cost in this context does not include clearance and development works which are normally carried out separately from the main contract.
