Vol. 220 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Westmeath Schools.

72.

asked the Minister for Education whether any decision has yet been taken regarding the construction of a three-teacher school at Milltownpass, Mullingar, County Westmeath; and, if so, when it will be built.

It is proposed to replace the existing national school at Milltownpass, County Westmeath by a new three-classroom school. The Reverend Manager has offered a site for the new building and a report on its suitability is awaited from the Commissioners of Public Works.

While there will be no avoidable delay in dealing with the arrangements for the provision of this new school, I regret that I am not in a position at this stage to say when building will commence.

73.

asked the Minister for Education whether any decision has been taken regarding the construction of a vocational school at Tyrellspass, County Westmeath; and, if so, when it will be built.

A decision has not yet been taken in regard to the construction of a vocational school at Tyrellspass. Such decision will depend on the assessment of the overall needs of the area in the matter of post-primary education which will result from the recent survey undertaken by my Department.

Has the Minister any idea when a decision will be taken in this regard?

It is difficult to say at this stage.

Did the Minister not say earlier that a couple of months would be the greatest delay?

The Deputy should be a little more accurate. That is not what I said.
