Vol. 221 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Defective Telephones.

70.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the many delays in repairing defective telephones in the Dublin area; if he will state the reason therefor; and whether subscribers whose telephones are out of order will be given rebates on their telephone rental accounts in respect of the periods during which their telephones were not operational.

The time taken to repair faults on non-priority subscribers' lines has recently increased, mainly as a result of the adoption of working restrictions by the maintenance staff concerned.

Special arrangements have been made to meet the situation and already the arrears position generally has been substantially improved.

On the question of rebates, I am informed that in most of the cases that have so far occurred the amount of rental involved is negligible. Exceptional cases will be sympathetically considered on application by the subscribers.
