Vol. 221 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Charges.

51.

asked the Minister for Health the number of civil bills issued by the Dublin Health Authority in respect of non-payment of hospitalisation charges in each of the past three years.

Mr. O'Malley

I have asked the health authority for the information and if the Deputy will repeat the question next week, I hope to be in a position to reply. In case there might be any scare, the figure I shall give will be less than one per cent.

52.

asked the Minister for Health what percentage of the middle income group was obliged to pay the full hospitalisation charges in Dublin city in each of the past five years.

Mr. O'Malley

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the maximum rate of 10/- a day which persons in the middle income group may be required to pay to the health authority towards the cost of hospital services provided for them by the authority. I assume also that the information which he requires is the percentage of persons in the middle income group for whom services were provided who were charged at the maximum rate. On this basis the percentages are 1960, 16.0; 1961, 15.7; 1962, 18.2; 1963, 16.3; 1964, 17.3.
