(South Tipperary) asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of the past ten years (1) the total annual payments made by the community for wages and salaries, and (2) the estimated number of persons covered in each year by these payments.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wage and Salary Payments.
I propose, with your permission, Sir, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the total wages, salaries and pensions (including employers' contribution to social insurance) received by persons resident in the State in each year 1955 to 1964. Pensions include only those received in respect of past employment and exclude social insurance payments. It is not possible to give separate data for wages and salaries only. The aggregate number of persons in receipt of wages, salaries and pensions is not available but the total number of employees at work, as returned at the 1961 Census of Population, was 649,621.
Following is the statement:—
