Vol. 221 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turnover Tax Remittance Books.

20.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Finance why the second turnover tax remittance book issued to traders in October, 1965, contained provision for 15 monthly sheets as compared with the 12 monthly sheets in the first remittance book issued in November, 1963; and if he is aware that such alteration could lead to unwelcome speculation in anticipation of an adjustment in the turnover tax code.

The first issue of turnover tax remittance books contained 12 sheets, which were intended as a year's supply. It was found desirable in the light of experience to include an additional two or three sheets in subsequent issues, to allow for possible spoilage. I am at a loss to know how this action could lead to speculation of the kind mentioned by the Deputy.
