Vol. 221 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Disability Benefit.

37.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of public dissatisfaction with the delay in payment of disability benefits in the Dublin area by his Department; and what action he proposes to take to eliminate this delay.

I am not aware of public dissatisfaction regarding delay in payment of disability benefit under the Social Welfare Acts to claimants in the Dublin area. If the Deputy will furnish me with particulars of any case in which he considers that delay has occurred, I will have the matter investigated.

Is the Minister saying that he never had complaints about this before?

No. I have no indication that there is any general delay in the payment of disability benefit in the Dublin area.

There are regular delays.

The cases of delay I have investigated were usually discovered to be mainly the fault of the claimant.

The public must be blamed for everything. It is never the fault of the Department.
