Vol. 221 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry School Medical Examination.

79.

asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the statement of the Kerry county medical officer of health in his annual report for 1964 that facilities in schools for the examination of children under the school medical examination scheme are in many instances unsatisfactory and to his recommendation that in planning new schools provision should be made for a room which could be used for medical examinations and for other purposes; and if he will put this recommendation into effect in planning new schools in the future.

I have seen the statement of the Kerry county medical officer of health referred to by the Deputy.

In the new type of national school now being erected, provision is made for larger size staff rooms with washing and sanitary facilities which are also suitable for occasional use as medical inspection rooms.

In schools having seven or more classrooms, a library cum medical inspection room is provided, or, alternatively, the dressing rooms attached to the school assembly hall may be used for medical inspection purposes.
