Vol. 221 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Sales from Midland Bogs.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will arrange with Bord na Móna to have the Midland bogs re-opened to hauliers for the sale of commercial turf to small consumers.

I am informed by Bord na Móna that stocks of saleable machine turf at present on hands at the Board's midland works are only sufficient to meet the anticipated requirements of the ESB generating stations and of the Board's industrial and institutional customers until the 1966 season's crop becomes available. There is no surplus out of which the requirements of domestic consumers can be met and this position is likely to continue until the late summer.

Would the Minister indicate the tonnage of turf available at Ballivor, Culnagun, Derryhawn and Derravorgue?

I have not got that information to hand but I am sure if a separate question were put down, the Minister would answer it.
