Vol. 221 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork County Council Loans.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government when his Department propose to give sanction to the Cork County Council for the loans applied for over six months ago for important and urgent housing and water schemes.

The county council will be notified within a week of their housing capital allocation for the coming financial year.

The council will also be notified later regarding the capital allocation for sanitary services.

When the Minister says "later" in respect of the sanction for the proposed water schemes, which have been in his Department for the past six months, will he explain what in essence does he mean?

As soon as I have cleared the housing allocations, we will be able to get down to the sanitary services.

In order to get this clear for Cork County Council, would the Minister be prepared to receive a deputation?

About what?

About the water schemes.

There are about 28 or 30 other councils which all have the same reasons for coming to me and I have the same answer for them.

The answer is as vague as it was six months ago.

It could scarcely be right for the Deputy to say that because I do not think he asked me that question six months ago.

Cork County Council have asked the Minister the question several times.

And I have made it clear to Cork County Council that it is no reflection on their request but that there is no point in their wasting their time coming to Dublin——

If there is no money there.

——to talk to me about a matter which is common to all other local authorities and on which my Department are working and will issue, as a result of their investigations, allocations to every local authority in the near future.
