Vol. 221 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal School.

69.

asked the Minister for Education if it is proposed to close Lettermore national school, Frosses, County Donegal; if so, when; whether in the event of the closure of the school free transport will be provided for the children to an alternative school; and if he will ensure that the teacher will not be declared redundant.

It is proposed that the one-teacher school at Lettermore be closed and that the children be conveyed to the larger school at Frosses. My Department is in communication with the Reverend Manager in the matter and the amalgamation will take place as soon as the necessary arrangements for the setting up of a transport service can be completed. My Department will pay the cost of the service and only a nominal local contribution will be sought. The lady at present serving in Lettermore NS is not eligible for recognition in any permanent capacity as teacher in a national school, and her services have been accepted in a temporary capacity as an exceptional matter.
