Vol. 221 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Status of Women.

8.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether this country will support the declaration against discrimination in relation to women as approved by the 21 nation UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Ireland is not represented on the Commission referred to by the Deputy and the text of the draft declaration has not yet been received by my Department.

The Report of the Commission has, of course, to be considered by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations during its summer session and later by the General Assembly. The final text of the declaration will have to be carefully examined before any decision can be taken in the matter.
