Vol. 221 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if proposals for a group water supply scheme for River Road, Blanchardstown, County Dublin have reached his Department; and if so, what is the present position.

Tentative proposals for a group water supply scheme for this area have been received in my Department. A meeting will be arranged in the next few weeks to indicate to the participants the steps which are now required to be taken.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that this meeting was sought last December and nothing has happened since?

We hope to have the meeting in the course of the next few weeks.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he expects to sanction a loan for the laying of a water main from Glebe Cross through Lusk, Rush, Skerries and Jordanstown to Knock Cross, County Dublin.

Dublin County Council's loan application to finance this scheme is under examination in my Department. I am not in a position, at present, to say when approval to the proposal is likely to issue.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the position regarding the proposed water supply scheme for Manorcunningham, County Donegal; and when work on this scheme is likely to begin.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the cause of the delay concerning a water supply to serve Newtowncunningham, Manorcunningham and Burnfoot, County Donegal; and if he is aware of the serious water problem in these areas.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 21 and 22 together.

The areas referred to by the Deputies are included in Donegal County Council's proposals for major extensions of the Lough Mourne regional water supply scheme which will be carried out in five stages and which were approved in principle by me on 28th June, 1963. I have also approved of contract documents for Stage 1 of the scheme which provides, inter alia, for trunk mains to Manorcunningham and Newtowncunningham. Donegal County Council's application for a loan of £200,000 to finance two sections of this stage is at present under examination in my Department. The submission of detailed documents for Stage 2 of the scheme, which will serve Burnfoot, is awaited.

I am not in a position at present to say when work on this scheme is likely to commence.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say when Donegal County Council applied for this loan?

In October or November.

The Minister is unavoidably absent for some reason I do not understand, but in his absence may I ask the Parliamentary Secretary if the Minister did not make a specific statement in Newtowncunningham this time last year that they would have this scheme by now? Is it significant that there was a general election then? What has happened in the meantime?

No dough.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary please answer that question?

No money.
