Vol. 222 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of Meath County Council, Louth County Council and Dublin County Council the amount of the capital allocation for water and sewerage loans for 1966-67 notified, or to be notified, in each case and the estimated allocation to be made in each case in 1967-68.

The general position regarding the capital allocation for sanitary services, for 1966-67 is under examination. I cannot yet indicate the amount to be allocated to individual local authorities. I am not in a position to give any information regarding allocations for the year 1967-68.

Can the Minister tell the House whether or not money will be available to proceed with the North Dublin regional water supply scheme?

I could not tell the Deputy, on a specific case, whether or not——

Dublin county is mentioned in the question.

Will money be available for that purpose?

It is under consideration—and some parts further advanced than others.

There is a proposition in the Minister's Department at the moment for the second stage.

Of course there is a proposition.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a large number of people in the Modeligo-Millstreet area have now signed a petition to Waterford County Council to have a piped water supply extended to the district; and when he expects that such a water supply will be provided.

I understand that Waterford County Council are considering a petition which they have received from a number of residents in the Modeligo/Millstreet area relative to the provision of a water supply for that area. It is for the council to decide whether this scheme, which they had abandoned on a previous occasion, should now be proceeded with.

There are no proposals before my Department in the matter.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to extend the town water supply to at least 36 houses in the direction of Killane Cross, Edenderry, County Offaly; and if a proposal from the Council to extend the supply to the end of the town boundary on this road will be sanctioned in view of the special urgency associated with the carrying out of this work.

There are no proposals before my Department for the extension of the Edenderry water supply to serve 36 houses in the direction of Killane Cross or for an extension of the supply to the end of the town boundary on this road.

I understand that Offaly County Council are at present considering a water supply improvement scheme for Edenderry which will serve this area.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to give sanction to proposals for extensions to Foxford water mains, as approved by the Mayo County Council.

Proposals for the extension of the Foxford water supply scheme to (a) Ballina Road (b) Station Road and (c) Swinford Road have been approved.

I understand that the extensions to Ballina Road and Station Road have been completed and that the extension along the Swinford Road has been completed except for an extension to serve 26 council cottages which it is hoped will be commenced during the coming month.

A proposal for an extension of the scheme to Rinnaney and Belgariff is under examination in my Department in conjunction with a number of other water supply proposals for the county.

That was a satisfactory reply.

55.

asked the Minister for Local Government when sewerage schemes for (a) Newport, (b) Ballina Quay, (c) Killala and (d) Bangor-Erris, County Mayo will be sanctioned.

Final plans and drawings in respect of sewerage schemes for (a) Newport, (b) Ballina Quay, (c) Killala and (d) Bangor-Erris, County Mayo are under examination in my Department.

I am not yet in a position to say when a decision on the proposals will issue.

Arising out of the Minister's reply to that globally eternal question, would he be able to indicate the date when we might expect news of sanction or otherwise?

I should not like to hazard a guess at this stage.

Even in respect of any one of them?

No, not at this stage.
