asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will consider the investment of capital in agriculture on a par with that in industry.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Investment in Agriculture.
The amount of capital provided by the State for investment in agriculture is substantial and compares favourably with the amount provided by the State for industry.
When the Minister says the amount "compares favourably", has he the figure?
I am sure the Deputy will realise that one can get many different interpretations or definitions of "capital investment" in this context. In so far as the State capital investment programme is concerned, the figure for 1965-66 for agriculture was about £19 million as against £11½ million for industry and the estimated figures for 1966-67 will be somewhat of the same order.
Surely that means a lot more than comparing favourably?
About £19 million for agriculture as against £11.5 million for industry.
