Vol. 222 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Fishing Centre.

71.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether he will consider the creation of a major fishing centre with landing and berthing facilities and local processing either in Blacksod or Broadhaven Bay, County Mayo.

The areas referred to were examined by the consultant engaged to advise on fishing harbours, but he did not consider any site in Broadhaven or Blacksod Bay as suitable for development as a major fishery harbour. Following consideration of the consultant's report, it was announced that five centres would be developed—Castletownbere, Dunmore East, Galway, Howth and Killybegs. It is not proposed at this stage to create any further centres.

Can the Minister indicate what the position is in regard to the fishery at Galway?

The question relates to County Mayo fisheries.

But the Minister has referred to Galway.

We are proceeding with it.

On paper.
