Written Answers. - Capital of Semi-State Bodies.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will set out side by side in respect of (a) Bord na Móna, (b) the air companies, (c) CIE and (d) other semi-State bodies operating under his Department for each of the past ten years, the amount of repayable capital provided by the Exchequer or State funds; the amount of non-repayable capital so provided; the amount of capital repaid; the amount of capital written off; and the total amount of Exchequer subsidies paid in each case.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state separately for each of the past ten years in respect of (a) Bord na Móna, (b) CIE and (c) the air companies, (1) the total amount of repayable capital issued from State sources; (2) the total amount of non-repayable capital so issued; (3) the amount of interest paid by each body; (4) the amount of capital repaid by each body; (5) the amount of interest paid out of the Exchequer to finance capital advances in the absence of interest payments by the body concerned; and (6) the total subsidy paid to each body.

The CIE financial year runs from 1st April to 31st March. *The sum of £1,803,000 repayable advances issued to the Board in 1956/57 is now non-repayable by the Board in accordance with the Transport Act, 1958.

As from 1/4/59 the Minister for Finance assumed liability for payment of principal and interest of the £9,889,083 3% Transport Stock, 1955/60.

The subsidy payments do not include the cost to the Exchequer of recoupment to CIE of redundancy compensation payments.

NOTE: Ostlanna Iompair Éireann is a wholly owned subsidiary of Córas Iompair Éireann which provided the capital of Ostlanna.
