Vol. 222 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Phoenix Park Entrances.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the placing of cattle grids at entrances to the Phoenix Park, Dublin, is causing serious concern and inconvenience to horse trainers and horse owners who normally use the Park; and if he will ensure that entrances are left in such a way that horses can pass in and out of the Park with safety.

I am aware that following the provision of cattle grids at two of the gates in the Phoenix Park some representations were made about the inconvenience caused. Steps are being taken to facilitate the entry and exit of horses by the side gates. In addition to the two gates in question there are seven other vehicular entrances to the Park.

I should like to ask the Parliamentary Secretary whether he is aware that it is dangerous for people to bring horses in by the side gates. They are much too narrow and it just is not possible to bring in horses through them. People have complained seriously about the gates being too small.

I am not so aware.

I would ask the Parliamentary Secretary to look into the matter.
