Vol. 222 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois-Offaly Schools.

124.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received representations from parents and others in regard to the provision of a new two-roomed national school to serve the area of Leabeg-Leamore, in the Parish of Ferbane, County Offaly; and if he will take steps to meet the wishes of all the parents in this area where there are a large number of children.

I have received and considered representations regarding the question of providing a new school at Leabeg, in replacement of the existing Leamore National school.

I have some time ago authorised the provision of a two-classroom prefabricated school at Leabeg and I have asked the Commissioners of Public Works to prepare plans for the school. This authorisation was given as a scheme of amalgamation is not feasible at present.

125.

asked the Minister for Education if he will receive a deputation of parents and school managers in relation to the proposed closing of the Rushes national school in the parish of Arles, County Laois; and if he will reconsider this matter in the light of the very special local circumstances.

If the school manager wishes that he and a number of the parents should be heard in regard to this matter, I shall be pleased to arrange accordingly. I must say, however, that the information available to me does not disclose any very special local circumstances.

If the Minister's secretary were contacted, could a suitable appointment be arranged for the school manager?

It could.

The Dáil adjourned at 4.55 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 3rd May, 1966.
