Vol. 222 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Overpayment. Old Age Pensioner.

43.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his Department in stopping the old age pension of a person (name supplied) whose number is 655230 because of overpayment of five shillings per week since last August were aware that this man is eightythree years of age, that he is living on his own, and that he is left to live on £1 7s. 0d. per week Army pension until 27th May; if he will consider restoring full pension to this man in view of his circumstances; or if he will arrange that the overpayment be recouped at at rate of two and sixpence or five shillings per week.

Payment of pension at the full rate was made in this case up to last week. I have now arranged as suggested by the Deputy that an overpayment of £9 5s. 0d. received by the pensioner will be recovered at the rate of 5/- per week and 37/6d. per week will be paid to him until the overpayment is discharged.
