Vol. 222 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Flags of Japanese Origin.

52.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that small Irish tricolour flags are on sale here of Japanese origin; and if it was possible to have these flags made in Ireland.

I understand that flags of the type referred to by the Deputy are on sale here. I also understand that Irish tricolour flags of a more expensive quality than those imported are made in the country. It would, of course, be a matter for private enterprise to decide whether any particular type of flag could be produced competitively here.

For the sake of the balance of payments, could they not have been prohibited?

Easter Lillies were made in Japan.

That is not the Minister's fault.
