asked the Minister for Health what steps have been or are to be taken to redeploy the medical nursing and administrative personnel and their physical facilities previously used for dealing with the tuberculosis problem in the Dublin Health Authority area so that they can take part in other health services where they are needed in the area.

All medical, nursing and administrative staff of the Dublin Health Authority concerned with the tuberculosis service when no longer required for this service were transferred to other health services and further similar transfers will be arranged as occasion arises.

As regards the various institutions vacated, or partially vacated, by tuberculosis patients I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a list of the institutions concerned, with a statement in each case of the manner in which the accommodation has been re-allocated.

The following is the list:

James Connolly Memorial Hospital.

62 of the beds in this institution have been used for other medical and surgical patients. A further 60 beds are now used for psycho-geriatric patients.

St. Mary's Hospital.

This hospital is now used for the treatment of geriatric, psycho-geriatric and acute medical patients.

Peamount Sanatorium.

60 adult male mentally handicapped patients are now accommodated in portion of the Sanatorium.

The former Crooksling Sanatorium.

Now St. Brigid's Hospital. Now used entirely for psycho-geriatric patients.

The farmer Rialto Hospital.

This accommodation has been absorbed in St. Kevin's Hospital and is used for general hospital purposes.

The former Pigeon House Road Tuberculosis Hospital.

Sold for industrial purposes.

The former Isolation Hospital at Pigeon House Road.

This was used for a period for the accommodation of tuberculosis patients. It is now used by the Meath Hospital in association with its Urological Department.

The former Ballyowen Sanatorium.

This institution is now known as St. Loman's Hospital. It is used exclusively as an active treatment unit for the mentally ill patients.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Dún Laoghaire.

This is now the national centre for medical rehabilitation and the national paraplegic centre.

St. Mary's Preventorium, Ballyroan.

This is now a school under the direction of the Sisters of Mercy.
