Vol. 222 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing Visitors.

1.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of visitors to the State in the year 1965 who came to fish for coarse fish on rivers and lakes.

The Central Statistics Office do not compile statistics of the numbers of visitors to the State who come to fish for coarse fish on rivers and lakes. Bord Fáilte have estimated that the number of visitors who came for this purpose in 1965 was 27,700.

Will the Minister discuss with his colleagues, the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, the probable effect on those numbers if the Government persist in their decision to tax fishing rods used for coarse fishing?

That is a separate question.

I hope it will have as good effect as the creamery milk suppliers are having on him.
